CD 7 Repair Report
Watershed
Stearns County Ditch 7 (CD 7) is a 9,200 acre watershed located west of the City of Elrosa. The
watershed lies in Sections 20, 21, 28-30, 31-33 of Getty Township; Section 36 of Raymond Township; Sections 5-9, 16-18, 19-21, 28-30, and 32 of Lake George Township; and Sections 1 and 11-14 of North Fork Township. The watershed is mainly comprised of agricultural farmland. The topography throughout the watershed is gently rolling.
History
CD 7 was originally constructed in 1901 and consisted of approximately 33,580 linear feet of open ditch. A major improvement was completed in the early 1990’s that lengthened the open ditch and installed side inlets along the ditch. In 2009 part of the northwest quarter of Section 20 of Lake George Township was re-established as what is believed to be native wetland. In 2010 a watershed boundary petition was filed between the Sauk River Watershed District and the North Fork Crow River Watershed District. In 2012 a realignment was requested in the southeast quarter of Section 20 of Lake George Township. In 2014 a repair request was made for the main ditch system. Numerous repairs and realignments have been made to the system however not all are clearly documented and represented in the record. Currently, the system consists of 69,300 linear feet of open ditch.
Existing Conditions
A survey of approximately 31,500 linear feet of the upper reaches of the CD 7 Mainline and Branch 1 open ditch in sections 31 and 32 of Getty Township; section 1 of North Fork Township; and sections 5, 6, and 8 of Lake George Township was completed in 2015 and provided by the North Fork Crow River Watershed District (NFCRWD). The remaining length of the ditch; in section 13 of North Fork Township and 16-20, 29, and 30 of Lake George Township; was surveyed by ISG in 2016. The mainline consists of approximately 45,300 linear feet of open ditch, Branch 1 consists of approximately 5,880 linear feet of open ditch, and Lateral A consists of approximately 18,100 linear feet of open ditch. Legal grade was established from the original construction documents. The culvert at 275th Street and 310th Street were used to align legal grade to the correct elevation as these are two main concrete culverts that. There are numerous side intakes as well as private tile lines throughout the system that drain into the open ditch. CD 7 outlets into the North Fork Crow River in the northeast quarter of Section 31 of Lake George Township. Photos were collected throughout the survey in order to help accurately describe the condition of CD 7, some of which are shown below.
